Project | Concept Development of a Global Environmental Day
PROJECT BRIEF: World Rainforest Day (WRD) is a collaborative effort to encourage and support global citizens, partners and stakeholders in joining together to collectively raise worldwide awareness and action on a designated day, to save one of the earth’s most precious resources, our rainforests.
A global platform for rainforests- an aggregator for all the combined collective voices
Catalyst to spark action, awareness and change
Global awareness with combined global effort could mean a huge change and global shift for rainforests
Calls for saving rainforests have a long history, but including forests as a core part of the global climate solution is “very very recent,” said Naoko Ishii, CEO of the Global Environment Facility, an international body that invests in restoring tropical forests. “Without taking care of the forests, it’s going to be just impossible to achieve the Paris agreement.”
THE GOAL is to spark global participation that spans 196 UN Countries through community events, virtual collaborations, creative projects and educational initiatives, all designed to celebrate the diversity of rainforests across the globe and highlight the value of these critical ecosystems.
It is my hope that WRD will serve as a day for people worldwide to come together by doing something positive for rainforests, taking the actions of individuals and combining their power to create a collective positive impact on rainforests and the climate worldwide.
OPPORTUNITY: World Rainforest Day will be the global leader of the movement to protect and preserve rainforests with an ability to affect true change that has large-scale impacts. The world is changing and this is the chance to be at the forefront of that change.
Using the successes of other environmental campaigns and organizations such as Earth Hour and Earth Day Network to gauge, set and measure performance targets for World Rainforest Day, we estimate our reach will grow from three countries in 2017 to 170 participating countries by year five.
